Sri Lanka promoted as attractive travel destination for Korean travelers


The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul hosted a tourism promotional event titled “Sri Lanka Destination Awareness Event: Most Desirable Island in the World” for a group of professionals from the tourism industry in South Korea on 13th December 2024 with a view of publicizing Sri Lanka as an attractive travel destination for South Korean travelers.

 

In her opening remarks, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to South Korea, Savitri Panabokke, drew attention to the fact that tourists visiting Sri Lanka has the fortune to engage in a variety of tourism experiences in a single country, which they would otherwise have to visit several countries to experience.  She also highlighted the potential for golf and religious tourism, as well as the year-round warm weather which would be ideal getaway during the winter season.

Minister (Commercial) of the Embassy, Chandima Abeyarthna made an informative presentation on Sri Lanka’s authentic and diverse tourism sectors and niche tourism segments such as wedding tourism, film tourism, cruise tourism and culinary tourism. She further explained the main reasons to choose Sri Lanka as a key travel destination that would be interested in Korean travelers such as beaches, wildlife, culture, wellness, among others.

 

Sri Lankan Airlines Korea Office also made a presentation on its operations between South Korea and Sri Lanka, including direct flights between the two countries. Korean media personnel who visited Sri Lanka also shared their experiences.

 

The event was attended by travel agents, journalists and professionals from travel sector. They underscored the growing interest in Sri Lanka as a premier tourist destination and also shown their keen interest on joining hands with the Embassy to contribute to its objective of increasing the number of Korean travelers visiting Sri Lanka in the future.

 

All guests were served with authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, Ceylon tea and a gift bag containing promotional materials.
