Ambassador joins Sri Lankan community in Incheon to celebrate the New Year
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, SavitriPanabokke, joined the Sri Lankan community in the Incheon area on 12th May 2024 at a celebration to mark the traditional New Year. The festival was organized by the Incheon Unity Youth Group, consisting of young Sri Lankans residing in the Republic of Korea.
The event commenced with religious blessings, followed by the lighting of the oil lamp by the distinguished guests. The event included New Year festivities such as games and traditional food.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador congratulated the organizers for holding the New Year festival, stating that it enabled all community members, young and old alike, to celebrate their traditional customs and culture, though being far away from home. She stated that events such as this served to strengthen the community and foster cultural understanding and harmony.
The celebration also afforded an opportunity for the Ambassador to meet and interact with the Sri Lankan community in the Incheon area and thank them for their contribution to their motherland.
