Sri Lanka signs Letter of Intent for the Prevention of Industrial Accidents for foreign workers (E9)
in the Republic of Korea
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Korea, Ms. Savitri I. Panabokke, signed a “Letter of Intent on the Prevention of Industrial Accidents for Foreign Workers (E9)” during the 2022 Employment Permit System (EPS) Conference held in Changwon, Republic of Korea on 29th August 2022. The Letter of Intent, which was signed by the 16 EPS countries, is beneficial for Sri Lankan and other migrant workers, as it enhances workplace safety awareness and practices.
Speaking during the exchange of views on the EPS, the Ambassador-designate highlighted the importance of ensuring proper accommodation facilities for foreign workers, ensuring their well-being by adhering to the COVID-19 health guidelines in the workplace and overcoming the backlog in sending and receiving procedures caused by the pandemic.
The annual Conference, which was held after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, brought together Ambassadors, diplomats and representatives from the 16 EPS countries and the relevant Korean agencies. The event was organized by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRDS) and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). The Conference was held in conjunction with the National Skills Competition which highlighted the skills of foreign workers.
Ms. H.V.G.L.D Weerarathna, Third Secretary (Employment and Welfare) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul also participated at the event.
