On 16^th January 2020, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis, along with the Counsellor of Commercial Affairs of the Embassy, Ms. Rekha Mallikarachchi, met with former Ambassador of Korea to Sri Lanka and currently Senior Professor, Vice Admiral Choi Ki-Chul, and leading Corporate Captain, Dr. Lee Man Ho, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of SAMILPCM based in Seoul.  The Corporate Leader was introduced to the Ambassador Mendis by the former Ambassador of Korea to Sri Lanka, Vice Admiral Choi Ki-Chul, who had been the Ambassador in Sri Lanka from 2008 to 2011. Dr. Lee Man Ho of SAMIL PCM broached two seminal and economically significant propositions which were construction of Low Cost Housing in Sri Lanka and solar power project which would produce approximately 300 MW. Dr. Mendis and Counsellor Mallikarachchi were much interested of the verbal proposal and requested Dr. Lee Man Ho to submit a project proposal in order to be transmitted to the Foreign Office and to the relevant Ministry in Sri Lanka. Further, Dr. Lee Man Ho stated that the Low Cost Housing Projects have been successfully concluded in a number of countries in South East Asia such as Vietnam, Cambodia and Philippines. He also added that a cost of each Low Cost fabricated house, along with one or two rooms, dining room, kitchenette and a toilet would cost between USD 500 to 700, which is in Sri Lankan Rupees 90,000 to 140,000. For all record purposes, this initiative, if feasible and viable, would alleviate the compelling housing shortages in both urban areas as well as rural areas of Sri Lanka.
