Sri Lanka horticulture industry promoted at the International Horticulture Goyang Korea (IHK) 2024.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul organized the Sri Lanka pavilion at the International Horticulture Goyang Korea (IHK) 2024with a view of promoting Sri Lanka floral and horticultural products in the Korean market.
Product samples ranging from tissue cultured products, cut foliage, aqua plants and rooted plants of four Sri Lankan companies named: Hayleys Agro Biotech Pvt Ltd, Hayleys Quality Seeds Pvt Ltd, Ramya Horticulture Pvt Ltd and Ruvini Aqua Pat Ltd were exhibited at the Sri Lanka pavilion which attracted a vast number of visitors during the event.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, Savitri Panabokke, participated at the opening ceremony of the IHK 2024 on 26th April 2024 and met with Mr Dong-Hwan Lee, Mayor of Goyang Special City and Chairman of Goyang International Flower Foundation and representatives of Goyang Special City Council and exchanged views on strengthening of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Goyang Special City.
During the event, the head of trade section of the embassy, Ms. Chandima Abeyrathna, Minister (Commercial) had a number of meetings with Korean horticulture sector companies and farmers to promote Sri Lankan horticultural products. Korean importers/farmers expressed strong interest on sourcing plants and seeds of tropical flowers/plants from Sri Lanka and currently are being discussing with the Sri Lankan companies.
The International Horticulture Goyang Korea, which was stablished in 1997 in Goyang, is the first global professional horticulture exhibition in the Republic of Korea. The event welcomes horticulture professionals from various countries and over 500,000 visitors. The show provides an opportunity for the exchange of insights into the latest horticulture trends and to strengthen business competitiveness. This year’s one of key area of focus was tropical plants, including niyagala (gloriosa superba), crotons, cactus and other tropical plants. The IHK is being held from 26th April to 12th May 2024 under the theme of "Flower in the Earth"
