Sri Lanka appoints prominent businessman as Honorary Consul to the Daegu Metropolitan City

Chargé d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea Jagath Abeywarna, handed over the letter of Commission to Dr. Kim Shin-Gil as the Honorary Consul for the Daegu Metropolitan City of the Republic of Korea, on 25 April 2019 at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Seoul, on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Tilak Marapana.

 

Following the event, the Exequatur for the appointment was presented to Honorary Consul Dr. Kim by Deputy Minister for Protocol Affaires and Chief of Protocol Chang Jae-bok at a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Republic of Korea, family members of Honorary Consul Dr. Kim and Chargé d’ Affaires Abeywarna, at the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 25 April 2019.

 

The Daegu Metropolitan City is the fourth largest City considering the population density (around 2.5Mn Population) which is 238 Km away from Seoul, Capital of the Republic of Korea. Around 1000 Sri Lankan migrants are living and working in the Daegu Metropolitan City and the surrounding areas.

 

Dr. Kim Shin-Gil is a prominent businessman who has a high recognition in the Daegu area as the Chairman of the Asia Technology Co. Ltd (a family owned Company) and the President of the Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO). The Asia Technology Co. Ltd is the first general agricultural machinery manufacturing company in the Republic of Korea which was founded in 1945.

During the occasion, the newly appointed Honorary Consul expressed his interests of sharing agricultural expertise with Sri Lanka to enhance Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), industrial development and productivity of farmers.
