Plaque of Appreciation presented to the Korea University for healthcare services provided to Sri Lankan migrant workers
On 29th April 2024, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea Savitri I. Panabokke, visited the Korea University to present plaques of appreciation to Dr. Eul-sik Yoon, President of Korea University Medicine and Dr. Il-tae Jang, President of the Alumni Association of the Korea University College of Medicine in recognition of the valuable service extended to the Sri Lankan community residing in the Republic of Korea by conducting mobile medical clinics free of charge.
Speaking at the occasion, the Ambassador thanked Dr. Yoon and Dr. Jang and other officials of the Korea University for supporting the health and welfare of over 400 Sri Lankans residing in and around Asan by conducting two medical clinics in 2023 and one medical clinic in April this year, which were held at the Mahavihara temple, under the aegis of Chief Incumbent Ven. Thalgamuwe Dhammakitti thero. The clinics, which provided several services, including testing and consultations to the members of the community, particularly migrant workers from Sri Lanka residing in the area.
The Ambassador also thanked the hospital for their contribution towards the donation of personal protective items by the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka during the covid-19 pandemic. She illustrated that these clinics were indicative of the robust people to people connections and longstanding friendship between the two countries. Dr. Yoon and Dr. Jang expressed pleasure at being able to support the healthcare requirements of the Sri Lankan migrant workers in the Republic of Korea. The Ambassador, Dr. Yoon and officials of the Korea University also discussed further avenues of cooperation in the area of healthcare.
Ven. Thalduwe Dhammakitti thero and senior officials of the Korea University involved in the medical mobile services were also present on this occasion.
