Obtaining a New Passport

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Original Birth Certificate or copy
  2. National Identity Card or copy if available
  3. Current Passport – If lost, a copy of it with a police report
  4. Three (03)color photographs (size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) taken within last 3 months;
    *Showing full face with both ears visible and taken without hat, jackets, spectacles &earrings - by male applicants
  5. Alien Registration card (Korean visa card) – In case the applicant has a valid visa

Processing fee
In case of expiration of the validity of the Passport (if 10 years have passed from the date of issue) In case of a lost/damaged passport

New Passport for a child (less than 16 years of age)

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Original Sri Lankan Birth Certificate of the child
  2. If born abroad, Sri Lankan Citizenship Certificate
  3. Three (03) color photographs (size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) taken within 01 month; Showing full face with eyes opened
  4. Letters of Consent by both parents
  5. Original Passports of both parents
  6. Original (Sinhala/Tamil) Marriage Certificate of the parents
Processing fee
KRW. 175,000/-

Temporary Passport (NMRP)

(Issued only to return to Sri Lanka if the Passport is lost/damaged or expired)

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Expired Passport – if lost/damaged, a copy of it
  2. Copy of Birth Certificate
  3. Two (02) color photos (size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) taken within last 3 months
  4. Copy of Air ticket (not beyond 01 month)
Processing fee
If previous passport is available : KRW. 60,000/-
If previous passport is not available : KRW. 175,000/-

Note : Any request for a Temporary Passport may be made at least 02 weeks before the departure date.

Renewal of Passport

(In case a passport was initially issued for 05 years and 10 years not passed from the date of issue)

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Original Passport
Processing fee
KRW. 4,000/- per year

Change of Name or Profession

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Valid Passport
  2. Original (Sinhala/Tamil) Birth Certificate
  3. If change in name: An Affidavit to be given at the Embassy
    If changing the maiden name: Original (Sinhala/Tamil) Marriage Certificate
  4. If the Profession to be included/changed:
    Relevant Professional/Employment Certificates counter certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sri Lanka or Korea
Processing fee
KRW. 12,000/-

Note : Change of name or profession is made only after obtaining the approval from the Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka.

Registration of Birth

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Korean Birth Certificate with English translation (If born in Korea)
  2. Parents’ original Birth Certificates (English translations are not accepted)
  3. Parents’ original Marriage Certificate (English translation is not accepted)
  4. Parents’ original Passports
  5. Declaration by father (If father is Korean, mother should give it)
  6. Korean Visa card (Alien Registration card)
  7. If the father had no valid visa at the time of the child's birth, he should submit an Affidavit in this regard.

Note : Normally, a birth should be registered within 01 year of the birth. Otherwise, approval of the Registrar General of Births, Marriages & Deaths should be obtained in order to register the birth.

Registration of Marriage

(Note: Both parties should be Sri Lankans over 18 years of age)

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Two (02) separate Affidavits (Unmarried Certificate) given by a parent of both parties in front of a lawyer/Justice of Peace to confirm the present civil status of both. This affidavit should include each parent’s no objection for the proposed marriage.
  2. If divorced, the Divorced Certificate
  3. If widowed, the Death Certificate of the late spouse and previous Marriage Certificate
  4. If adopted, the Adoption Certificate
  5. Original Birth Certificates of both(English translation are not accepted)
  6. Valid Passports of both
  7. Two (02) witnesses with valid Sri Lankan Passports

Note :

  • All above documents except Passports should be duly authenticated by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.
  • All names, passport numbers, Identity card numbers should be correctly mentioned in the Unmarried Certificate.

Registration of Death

(In case, the human remains are to be buried or cremated in the Republic of Korea)

Relation, friend or any other person who has an eyewitness to the death should inform about the death to the Embassy.

Required documents for the registration;

  1. Death Certificate issued by the Doctor (with an English translation)
  2. Certificate issued by the hospital handing over the Human Remains (with an English translation)
  3. Other related documents of the death issued by the Korean authorities (with English translations)
  4. Passport, Birth Certificate and other identification documents of the deceased.
  5. Declarant's Passport or any other identification document

Attestation of Documents

(Attestation fee for any document except educational certificates – KRW. 30,000/-)

Applicants should bring the following;

Driving License

  1. Original Sri Lankan Driving License
  2. Electronically attested extraction of Driving License by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka along with the original document
    - The applicant's full name (as indicated in the passport) should be correctly mentioned in the Driving License or its extraction. Otherwise issuance of Korean Driving License would be rejected.
  3. Valid Passport

Power of Attorney/Sworn Affidavit

  1. Power of Attorney/Sworn Affidavit prepared by a lawyer (English or Sinhala)
  2. Valid Passport
  3. Two (02) witnesses holding valid Passports (only if the witnesses are required by the Lawyer/bank.)

Self Affidavit/Application for Leave Abroad or any other purposes required by Sri Lankan authorities

  1. The applicant should visit the Embassy with the prepared document and place the signature before the certifying officer
  2. Valid Passport

Documents issued by Korean authorities/employers

  1. Original document attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea
  2. Valid Passport

Educational Certificates

  1. Electronically attested Educational Certificates by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka along with the original documents
  2. Valid Passport

Documents issued by Sri Lankan authorities

  1. Electronically attested documents by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka along with the original documents
  2. Valid Passport>

Application for Police Clearance Certificates

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Original Passport
  2. Original Sri Lankan National Identity card or Sri Lankan Driving License

Renunciation of Sri Lankan Citizenship

Applicants should bring the following;

  1. Original Sri Lankan Identity Card
  2. Original Passport
  3. Original Birth Certificate
  4. Translation of a letter issued by the Ministry of Justice of Korea with regard to the naturalization certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea
