As a part of government ‘s digital transformation programme, H E Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka on 7th February 2025 officially launched the e-BMD system for obtaining birth, marriage, and death certificates through Sri Lankan embassies abroad.

The initiative was officially launched through the Sri Lanka Embassy in South Korea where a Sri Lankan student in South Korea successfully received a birth certificate via this online system.
