The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul conducts a mobile consular service and awareness programme for Sri Lankan migrant worker community in Mokpo 

 

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul, in collaboration with the representatives of Sri Lankan State Banks in Korea, including the People’s Bank, Bank of Ceylon and National Savings Bank, conducted a consular mobile service and an awareness on remittances on 04th September 2022 at Mokpo, located in Southwestern Korea, which is home to a significant Sri Lankan community. Approximately 100 Sri Lankans attended the event to obtain consular and labour welfare services as well as banking services.

 

Speaking during the opening of the event, Ambassador-designate Ms. Panabokke re-affirmed the commitment of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul to serve the Sri Lanka community in the Republic of Korea and highlighted that the objective of conducting the mobile service was to provide consular and labour assistance to the Sri Lankans in the Mokpo region and to enhance engagement with them.  She also acknowledged the important contribution made by the Sri Lankan expatriate community in the Republic of Korea to the Sri Lankan economy. Ms.Lakshika Weerarathna, Third Secretary-Employment and labour Welfare, speaking to the Sri Lankans present at the venue highlighted the importance foreign remittances to Sri Lanka through legal channels.

 

During the event, the Embassy Consular Division led by Ms. Sachini Dias, Second Secretary, provided consular assistance including the renewal of passports, document attestation, signing of affidavits and power of attorney to the Sri Lankan expatriate community in the Mokpo region. In addition, representatives of the Bank of Ceylon, National Savings Bank and People’s Bank extended banking services to Sri Lankan expatriate community.

 

Similar events are scheduled to be conducted in the cities of Gimhae and Daegu in the coming months.
