Savitri Panabokke, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea highlighted the contribution of sports diplomacy towards strengthening people to people relations and bilateral ties during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Masters Dispatch Programme on 30th November 2022. She congratulated Kukkiwon, which is the global headquarters of taekwondo located in Seoul, for its initiative to promote this form of martial arts around the world and for its efforts to have it included as a sport in the Olympic games.
Highlighting the physical, mental and spiritual benefits achieved by those who practice this form of martial arts, the Ambassador thanked Kukkiwon for assigning a taekwondo master to Sri Lanka to train Sri Lankan youth and officials for the past 25 years. She also expressed appreciation for Kukkiwon's role in enhancing the bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Korea through sports diplomacy.
The Ambassadors attending the celebration were presented with an honorary black belt. The event concluded with a display of taekwondo by students of Kukkiwon.
Ms. Sachini Dias, Second Secretary of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Seoul, accompanied the Ambassador to this event.
