Embassy of Sri Lanka Showcases Sri Lanka’s Cultural Heritage through “Pulse of Sri Lanka - A Celebration of Dance and Heritage”

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea successfully hosted “Pulse of Sri Lanka – A Celebration of Dance and Heritage” on 5 June 2026 at the Kkumbit Theater, Seongbuk Media Culture Maru, Seoul, presenting a vibrant showcase of Sri Lanka’s rich dance traditions and cultural heritage to an international audience in the Republic of Korea.

The event attracted an audience of approximately 250 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, Ambassadors accredited to the Republic of Korea, representatives of international organizations, a diverse cross section of Korean society, foreign residents, and members of the Sri Lankan community.

The cultural showcase featured performances by the Sri Lankan dance troupe Ranga Gamage Dancing Studio, who arrived in the Republic of Korea under the courtesy of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB). The troupe presented a diverse repertoire of traditional and contemporary Sri Lankan dance forms drawn from both the Kandyan and Low Country traditions, providing the audience with an insight into the artistic, ritual and folkloric traditions that have been preserved and passed down through generations in Sri Lanka.

The programme featured a range of traditional and fusion performances including the Ves Dance, Salu Paliya, modern interpretations of traditional wannam choreography together with a special presentation depicting the lives of Sri Lanka’s farming and fishing communities. A traditional drum orchestra performance further highlighted the central role of percussion in Sri Lankan cultural expression and ceremonial life. The programme ended with a special performance that brought together Sri Lankan Dance and K-Pop Music which won an exciting reception from the audience.

Under the theme Pulse of Sri Lanka, the programme celebrated Sri Lanka’s cultural traditions, bringing together performances inspired by the island’s music, dance, ritual and community life. The audience was also invited to learn more about Sri Lanka through an interactive segment featuring questions on the country’s history, culture and tourism attractions.

The Embassy also expressed its appreciation to the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation for its support and cooperation in facilitating the event, which contributed to the successful presentation of Sri Lankan culture to audiences in the Republic of Korea.

The event formed part of the Embassy’s continuing efforts to promote greater awareness of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage in the Republic of Korea and to strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
