Sri Lanka Tourism Briefing Session – “Sri Lanka is Ready”

 

A Sri Lanka Tourism Briefing Session was held on 18th December 2025 at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul under the theme “Sri Lanka is Ready” to update Korean travel and media stakeholders on the current tourism sector readiness to welcome travellers following the Cyclone Ditwah.

 

In his opening remarks, Ambassador M. K. Pathmanaathan while welcoming the participants thanked them for gathering to explore the paradise island of Sri Lanka and to support the nation after the Cyclone Ditwah. He emphasized that the people-to-people connections and cultural ties are crucial for bilateral relationships and tourism sector between the RoK and Sri Lanka. He also stated that he is looking forward to working with the travel sector stakeholders as part of strengthening the ROK-Sri Lanka bilateral relationship during his tenure.

 

In her congratulatory remarks, Cho Tae-Sook, President of the Seoul Tourism Association, expressed her sincere appreciation to the Embassy for strengthening the collaboration between the tourism communities in both countries.  

 

Minister (Commercial), Chandima Abeyarthna made an informative presentation on Sri Lanka’s authentic and diverse tourism sectors and niche tourism segments such as wedding tourism, film tourism, cruise tourism and culinary tourism. She further explained the current status at the tourism sites, which are currently operate as usual, ensuring uninterrupted access for visitors and how the country made it safe for travellers following the Cyclone.

 

Mr. Chammika Iddagodage, Country Manager of Sri Lankan Airlines presented its flight operations between the two countries and facilities arranged by the airline to support travellers during the Cyclone. A travel witter recently visited Sri Lanka also shared his experience travelling different regions and cities in Sri Lanka.

 

The event was attended by travel agents, journalists and professionals from travel sector and they underscored the growing interest in Sri Lanka as a premier tourist destination and fledged their continuous support to further increase Korean travellers visiting Sri Lanka.  

 

All guests were served with authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, Ceylon tea and a gift bag containing promotional materials and provided the networking opportunities.
