New Sri Lankan Envoy Presents Credentials in the Republic of Korea

The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, M.K. Pathmanaathan, presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, at a ceremony held at the Presidential Office in Seoul on 11 December 2025.

The Credentials Ceremony included a brief meeting with President Lee. During the meeting, President Lee warmly welcomed the new Ambassador and wished him well in his assignment. Ambassador Pathmanaathan thanked President Lee for his kind sentiments and conveyed the best wishes of President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, which were warmly reciprocated. He expressed Sri Lanka’s deep appreciation to the Republic of Korea for hosting over 37,000 Sri Lankan expatriates who make a significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s economy, noting their satisfaction with employment opportunities in Korea. The Ambassador also highlighted the Sri Lankan Government’s interest in further elevating the existing close and friendly relations, especially in view of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.

Ambassador Pathmanaathan has served in various capacities in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service. Immediately prior to his retirement in March 2025, he held the position of Additional Secretary for Africa and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka. He previously served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Egypt and Oman, and has held positions in Sri Lanka Missions in Chennai, Kuala Lumpur, and London.
