Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis, was invited as the Guest of Honor by the Mayor and President of Cheonan City Multicultural Immigrants Center for the Opening Ceremony of a new branch of Cheonan City Multicultural Immigrants Center, primarily, assisting, cooperating and facilitating as well as intervening and counselling on issues and problems related to migrant workers of all nationalities. In the entire City of Cheonan, it is estimated that there are over 1,500 Sri Lankans living and working. As the Guest of Honor, Dr. Mendis, in his address, deeply appreciated and expressed the City of Cheonan, including the Mayor and City officials and the President and officials of Cheonan City Multicultural Immigrants Center, for extending such altruistic and generous assistance and facilitation to migrant workers, from a multitude of nationalities, ethnicities and religions, including Sri Lankans. The Opening Ceremony was particularly unique from a Sri Lankan perspective, since only Sri Lankan Envoy attended the ceremony as it is two-hours from the City of Seoul. There were a number of Sri Lankan nationals also attended the Ceremony and Dr. Mendis appreciated their contribution to the economy of country. The organizers, President of the Multicultural Migrants Center and the Mayor and City officials were grateful of the presence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka as the Guest of Honor.
